Key factors in operating effectively for any organisation are the knowledge and skills of people. If we train our people and continually ensure up-to-date knowledge and skills, we shall be able to compete effectively.
Here at one we are dedicated to the training and development of our staff members and believe in investing in each of our employees, taking on people of all ages and from all backgrounds.
Quality training and development is the cornerstone for success in any workplace and training provides many benefits including:

This is where our one Academy comes in to its own. We have a recruitment scheme where we bring people in; starting at a junior level enabling them to grow and develop in that role with the help of our academy's training programmes. We provide relevant training, specific to each candidate's role and needs, focusing on taking great care to ensure that the people we recruit are the very best. Having taken such care over recruiting them, we obviously want to retain them for as long as we can, so we do all that we can to ensure that our working environments, culture, policies and benefits motivate them and help them to give their best while they're at work. We expect our employees to be high performers, but we also equip them to achieve their full potential, give them the flexibility to balance work and home life, and reward and recognise the excellent work that they do in making one such a success.
Training and development is a big focus for us. We have full-time training and development professionals based in the OSU Team, who support functions providing a wealth of training and development opportunities for all employees, some sourced externally and others developed and delivered by our OSU Team. Some initiatives are suitable for everyone and some are tailored to those working in specific areas and roles within the company. Learning opportunities include:
- Classroom based workshops and courses
- Multimedia packages
- On the job training
- Coaching and mentoring
- Participation in cross-functional teams and on special projects
- Secondment to other areas of the business
- Support for further education and qualifications
All training and development is tailored to an individual's needs through a consultative process between the employee and his/her manager, which is supported by our training and development experts. Wherever possible, and in line with each individual's aspirations and skills, we support employees to fulfil their potential, whether that is within their original role or in alternative roles elsewhere in the organisation.
Our future plans are to continue to grow and develop through careful talent managing. We aim to identify, develop and engage the needs of our employees taking a strategic approach. We aim to provide support and guidance in the design and development of approaches to talent management that will fit the needs of the organisation and or staff.
We will continue to prioritise recruiting, identifying, developing and managing both the organisations and employees needs. We aim to provide our employees with relevant and distinguished external training through the help of government funding as well as continuing to provide internal training programmes through the one Academy.
